News, updates and map curiosities
A New Home Page, a Rebuilt Blog and a Newsletter
TripGeo has had a quiet week of rebuilding, and there are three things to show for it: a new home page, a rebuilt blog, and a newsletter that finally exists.
A newsletter, at last
People have been asking for this for a while, usually in the politest possible way: is there a way to hear when something new goes up? Until now the honest answer was no — you either checked the site or you found out by accident.
So there is now a TripGeo newsletter. It is an occasional email about what is new here: new games, new city maps and the odd piece of map trivia. Not a weekly digest, not a marketing funnel, and never a reason to email you about something that is not actually new.
Signing up is a single tick box. It sits in the top right of the blog, next to the title — tick Receive Newsletter and you are on the list. There is also a newsletter page that explains the whole thing and does the same job with one button.
Two small notes. The setting lives on your TripGeo account, so you will need to be signed in with Google for the box to do anything — signed out, it politely tells you so. And you can turn it off at any time, either from the same tick box, from User Settings, or from the unsubscribe link in any email we send.
A new home page
The old home page was a list. It worked, in the sense that everything was on it, but TripGeo has grown to the point where a list of everything is not much help to anyone arriving for the first time.
The new one is built around a showcase. Across the top is a row of categories — Featured, Daily Games, Map Games, Strategy, Multiplayer, Scrambled Maps, Map Tools, Videos, Stories, Maps Mania and more — and below it a full-window stage that moves through the pages in whichever category you have chosen, one at a time, with the image, the headline and a single button that takes you straight there.
Leave it alone and it rotates by itself, working through a category and then moving on to the next, so the home page now behaves a little like a trailer for the site. Touch it and it stops and waits for you. Underneath the stage is a scrollable index of everything in the category, so if you know exactly what you came for you are never more than two clicks from it.
The categories are assembled from the site itself rather than typed out by hand, which means today's featured city, the newest Stories and the latest posts from Maps Mania appear on the home page automatically as they arrive.
A rebuilt blog
The blog has been rebuilt to match. Posts are now a grid of cards with a date, a proper summary and the post's own lead image, so you can see what is there at a glance instead of reading your way into each one to find out.
Individual posts got the same treatment: a clean single-column read, share buttons at the foot, related posts and a link back to everything else. Behind the scenes each post now carries its own title, description and image, so a link to a TripGeo post shared on Bluesky, Reddit or in a message finally unfurls as that post rather than as a generic site card.
What is next
More of the same, mostly — the redesign has been working its way outwards from the home page, and there are plenty of corners of TripGeo that have not had their turn yet. New games are still the main event, and the newsletter now exists precisely so that you hear about them.
Have a look at the new home page, and if you would like the next post by email, tick Receive Newsletter at the top of the blog or visit the newsletter page.
